Run It Back — Empower a Champion
Run It Back is Empower’s annual community challenge — a week where we turn our passion for running into powerful action. Inspired by the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child,” we believe it takes a community to empower a champion.
Each year, we support one local hero whose work impacts many lives. This initiative began in 2021 when we raised R50 000 to buy a home for a foster mom. Since then, Run It Back has grown into a movement of ordinary people using their steps to create extraordinary change.
Our 2025 Champion: Princess
This year, we are running to empower Princess, a preschool teacher in Silvertown, Thembalethu. Her classroom is overflowing with little ones, and she needs more space to give them the future they deserve.
Through Run It Back ’25, we aim to raise R70 000 to help her expand her school — impacting more than 45 children’s lives.
Why We Run
To strengthen our community by supporting local heroes who uplift others.
To take something we love — running — and turn it into meaningful action.
To show that when we move together, we move lives forward.
What the Challenge Involves
Run or walk a full marathon (42.2 km) over 7 days.
On the final day, we finish together at Redberry Farm in George, completing their scenic 5.8 km route (twice). Families, friends, and running buddies are all welcome.
How You Can Be Part of It
You can participate in four ways:
1. The Classic Challenge
Run/Walk 5.1 km daily for 6 days + 2 laps of 5.8 km at Redberry Farm (total 42.2 km).
2. Run & Share
Complete the same distances and share your journey daily on social media, tagging
@empowertp.org_ and @RunItBack_Empower.
3. Run for a Cause
Run the challenge and commit to raising R5 000 through our GivenGain campaign.
4. Give Directly
Contribute R5 000 or more to support Princess and her preschool expansion.
Who Can Join?
Anyone — individuals, families, businesses, churches, running clubs, and friends who want to make a difference.
Every participant stands a chance to earn the Crown and become the King or Queen of Run It Back each year.

To eradicate unemployment and poverty in the community. In the process of achieving this objective, we hope to connect people, support ideas and provide a platform for them to grow emotionally, relationally and spiritually before being launched successfully into a job creation environment.
